Important Points You Must Know

Drive on the Left Side

  • Always drive on the left on roads, intersections, and highways
  • Drivers from right-hand traffic countries should be especially careful

Turning Right and Left

  • When turning right, oncoming vehicles have priority.
    Wait until clear.
  • Always give priority to pedestrians

Parking and Stopping Rules

  • Parking or stopping on roads is prohibited
  • Violations may result in fines up to ¥25,000
  • Unauthorized or extended parking in convenience store or facility parking lots is prohibited.

If a violation occurs, you must either pay the fine yourself or complete a written acknowledgment at the return location and pay up to ¥25,000.

Prohibition of Mobile Phone Use

  • Using or viewing a smartphone while driving
    (calls, screen use, looking at the screen, etc.)
    • Penalty: Up to 6 months imprisonment or fine up to ¥100,000
    • 3 penalty points
  • If mobile phone use causes danger
    (accident, reckless driving)
    • Penalty: Up to 1 year imprisonment or fine up to ¥300,000
    • 6 penalty points
    • Administrative penalty: License suspension (immediate)
